Hello people's. Today I'm talking about a videogame I've played recently. Here it goes.

Nidhogg is a tug of war, fighting, fencing game. There are two people playing against each other on a 2D map one on the left side and one on the right. First off one of them has to be killed and then whoever didn't die gains momentum and control of the camera, his goal is to now run all the way to his side of the screen to win and the other guy repeatedly respawns in his way forcing the guy with the camera control to kill him or find a way around him. If the guy defending manages to kill the guy running then he gets the camera control and now he has to run to the other side. If a player makes it past their final screen then they win and are honorably devoured by the glorious Nidhogg, a serpent in Norse mythology.

They are many different fencing moves in this game but the controls and concept is simple making it easy to understand but hard to master. If your not moving then you're holding the sword straight out in front of you in the middle position. If you flick the analog stick up then you go into the upper position with a higher sword and likewise if you flick it downwards. Their are certain advantages to each position. If you and your opponent are both in one position when you hit attack then your swords will just clang together until someone gets close enough to stab before the other does. However if you move it above or below their sword you can either hope to stab them before they stab you or flick up into their sword or down into it to flick it out of their hands leaving them defenseless. You have a few options if you don't have a sword, you can jump and hit attack in mid air to dive kick your enemy and this will knock them down unless their sword is high, then it will stab you. You can also roll under them and sweep their legs which also knocks them down, however if their sword is low it will stab you when you roll into it. You can also punch them from behind but this leaves them completely open to turn around and stab you. Punching twice will knock them down. Once someone is down if you are over them and hit attack you can kill them, making it possible for someone weaponless to win over someone with a sword. You can also do all of those things with a sword except for punching. If your weaponless you can pick up a sword laying on the ground by pressing down. You can also hold up to hold your sword above your head and hit attack to throw it, a thrown sword wont stop till it hits someone or a wall. To block a thrown sword you keep your sword in the medium or high position so it will just bounce off but if you are running away or have your sword low it will hit and kill you. You can also doge one by jumping or rolling. Oh yeah and cartwheels ;)

Their is also a single player campaign but only four maps so it's not nearly as fun as local multiplayer. The maps are very fun offering tall grass to hide in, conveyor belts, pitfalls, disappearing floors and more. There's also online multiplayer but it's still more fun to be able to talk to the person your fighting

Nidhogg is an amazing fast paced game different from any other fighting game I've seen before and I highly recommmed trying it out with a friend. Bye.
